holley ECM / accell ecm

I think the standard projection ECM is an analog unit - When Holley had a 
proper BBS - half the posts were about problems to it.  Many posters had 
changed over to the holley digital box or an accel or GM ECM.  I guess it 
must be a POS - any comments?

Is the accel ECM basically a GM box with the ability to change the maps on 
the fly with a laptop?  What would it take to do real time changes on a 
pre-OBD2 gm ECM?
