Its been my experience that there has been no benefit to the EGR other than
NOx reduction.  I of cource always have to set the timing down a little
after disabling the EGR, but I always get a MPG increase becasue the
exhaust gases aren't smothering the flame out.  Here at the power plant
where I work we are doing similiar exhaust gas recirculation on the
boilers, while it makes the feds happy it really kills the heat-rate and we
actually burn more fuel to get the same mega-watt.  Also our unburnt
combustable loss in the ash is much higher meaning some of the fuel is even
getting burned.
     I have noticed that however GM doesn't use the EGR very heavily.  Ford
on the other hand really smothers the engine with it.  I disabled it on my
94 explorer and got a whopping 2 mpg better.  It pulls in OD much better
now.  Anyway I didn't want to get us off the subject too much.  I'll keep
working on the ARDC.  Oh BTW I only ran the AZTY through a disassembler.  I
don't have any notes, except on for the ARDC and they are quite similiar.
