I think you'd be in the same boat as adding a faster clock to an older
CPU... the timing of the routines would be messed up by eliminating code...
most of the code I have seen is written to loop in a certain number of ms.
you remove sections of code and you'd have to drop in delay routines to
take their place or you'd be shooting yourself in the foot.
