Well there are two ways. The first is to just bring out a cable from mapped
addressable RAM. Better since lead length is not a problem is to use an
EEPROM in place with data lines brought out to an "emulation device". This
way even a glitch/shutddown of the emulator would leave the vehicle
functional. Difugledy is that AFAIK there were no 4kx8 24 pin EEPROMs
closest is a 8Kx8 in a 28 pin form factor so would require a bit of socket
mixing. The good newsa is that you could load two different sets (stock in
bottom, "phun" in top and if the pipes start glowing a single switch flip
would bring it back to stock before meltdown while fixing the top.

We built something like that using a Rat Shack color computer (6809) & it
worked well with a C3 but that was over a decade ago.

Need to look around and see what is available. Is entirely different from
ALDL scanning.
