FWIW: MEMCALS are somewhat plentiful in u-pull-it boneyards. 
And the counter guys don't usually want much for them. 
If they don't have the correct sized EPROM, you can cut 
it off and solder on a socket.  Makes a great development 
tool.

Did you try the original memcal to make sure the ECM didn't 
cook?  I've cooked my share of ECM's. ;(
