I have a switching power supply design i made a couple of years ago
for R/C glow plugs. It measures plug impedance and maintains a
constant temp on the heater. Measuring the feedback voltage will
indicate temperature. I can sen you a copy of the design if interested.
It really works well with R/C engines... fast starts and increased plug 
life.
