A cable modem wouldn't work to host the mailing lists.  At least in
Silicon Valley, @Home / TCI / AT&T is disallowing any servers on your
cable modem.  That means no web page serving and no e-mail serving. 
Essentially, the cable modem is just "The Internet Channel".
