stuff

Subject: TPI MAP, Fans, Questions
Things are going well with my TPI -> Olds 403 setup. Ford
injectors are
in place, I'm modifying a TPI FP reg. to fit my setup, and have
finally
doped out the harness I have - supposedly 89, but see below for why
I
think it's 88. I've faked out the ECM for emissions solenoids
(thanks for
the info guys).
Why? I never had to, didn't set any codes. How can it know?
But a few more questions:
1. MAP sensor - it looks like the TPI doesn't use a MAP sensor. Am
I
correct? This is a MAF system (165 / ABYA). There's no connector
on the
harness, and nothing about it on the schematic I have. Am I looking
too
hard? ;^>
No Map, is mass air system (165 ecm) not speed density
2. "EGR Vacuum Sensor Signal". What is this, can I just leave it
disconnected?
Is it not just a temp sens on egr valve? Don't think has vac
sensor, what you are talking about may be the solenoid for egr on/off
Hmm unless harness and setup is from corvette
3. Can I just leave the park/neutral input (B10) open so the ECM
thinks
it's permanantly in gear, or does this need to be a real input?
Nope, will set code 24 (vss) pluc tcc wil not work (if using 700r4)
and iac will not reset
4. Will the ECM care if the cooling fans are not hooked up? I'm
staying
with the stock clutch fan for now... one less thing to deal with.
Just
dummy up the fan relay with another resistor?
No need ecm does not care, mine is running mech fan
BTW, I was temporarily stumped as to why my harness didn't have a
wire on
pin B6 for the VATS input. A quick search thru the DIY_EFI
archives and
the F-body list reminded me that 88 doesn't use VATS. My cal is
1988 ABYA.
Umm yes it does, 2 of my friends have 88/89 camaro, 88 is same
prom as yours, he has dat resistor on key:-)
Where did harness come from? 305 tpi generally did not have vats
where as almost all 350 tpi's did. Except for some broadcast codes, and
yours is not one of them. Did you take the harness all out at once with
ecm, or is it pieces put together, like harness from one car ecm from
another, tpi from another?
Have seen people get screwed when they buy tpi setup for 350, turns
out it is a 305 setup with 350 prom, (19lb injector are basically the only
difference) but still.
Of course, this was AFTER I built a VATS eliminator (thanks to Mike
R.).
At least now I'll be ready when I want to burn a later prom.....
Interestingly enough, pin B6 (VATS input) does have +5 vdc on it.
It should whether vats or not.
