What is, and the  difference between a 2d and a 3d table?

To change individual bits,---Is this the binary converted from hex?  i.e.
$6d=01101101 in binary so does this mean bit1 or b1=0, b2=1, b3=1 etc?
And for hex value of 2 SIG did is always 8 bits right?
So if I wanted to have a certain bits =1 or 0  I would have to convert them
to hex right?

That's all that is pretty well all that is fuzzy after this point after
researching and mucking with bins.:-)
Just want to get everything crystal clear before I start modifying stuff
