IAT placement

Since I haven't had my foot in my mouth since
yesterday, here goes...

If the factory setup used a manifold hole for IAT,
then i would think you'd want it in there because the
factory calibration would be closer.  But if you plan
on tweaking tables and stuff anyways, I'd put it right
before the throttle body.  Does anyone have any
running numbers for IAT on differing applications?  My
engine compartment gets so hot that the sensor is hot
to the touch anyways, even though the incoming air is
not that hot.
