Diacom Adaptor(s)

I've got diacom-plus and I can't scan a 1994 grand am
V6.  The VIN number brings up the correct info on the
car, but no connection.  I've heard about adaptors for
the diacom cable to work with different vehicles.  If
so, what do these adaptors really do?

p.s. it works on my 1995 chevy pickup just fine.
