I have a TP 600 and had a similar problem.
My solution "crude but effective" go to control panel and disable the irda 
and modem. You may even have to remove them.

Also, is anybody keeping tabs on "port power compatible laptops"?
For the record, it works on thinkpad 600 series. No cig. lighter needed.
