> Ported MAF
Welcome to the list, Jason. Hopefully others will help by chiming in, but I
just wanted to make one quick comment about the modification I've left up
there from your sig.
Honestly, I'm not sure how the computer reacts in the L98 world, but in the
LT1 world, there is a large ongoing debate about the value of porting the
MAF. The MAF is calibrated to operate with its screen and inner fins intact.
By opening it up, you throw off this calibration, and things can start going
downhill very quickly as far as driveability. LT1 owners often complain of
rough idling and block learns going crazy.
I realize that the L98 MAF on a 383 is like trying to put out a fire with
water through a straw. It's tiny. But by porting, you've thrown off the
calibration, and unless you rescale your MAF tables to account for the more
open cross sectional area, you'll continue to have driveability problems.
That's another problem we've seen in the LT1 world - that unless the MAF was
machined open, virtually no 2 hand ported MAFs are the same.
Any way you could put a stock MAF back on there and see what happens?
Otherwise, you might consider following other's footsteps here and moving to
a '90-'92 F-body 730 ECM-based MAP system and ditch the MAF completely. ;) A
few wiring changes, a little tuning, and no more MAF restriction... Others
know far more about this than I, though.
Just a thought from the peanut gallery,
Andrew
