How do I do a quick test of a 730

Can I hook up a Power, Ground, and ALDL line, and make sure it has a
pulse?
if so will this do it?

A8 - ALDL
B1 - +12v
A12 Ground

ps. if anyone has some indepth knowledge of MAX233's I could sure use
some help.
