On the subject of accurate measurements on an analog meter:

Q: Why did Microna put a mirror behind the meter movement of their analog
VOMs?

A: To remove parallax.  You position your eyeball so that the reflection of 
the needle is hidden by the needle.  That “lines” you up 
perpendicular to the meter face.  Kinda takes out the subjectivity of reading 
the meter.
