reading a Knock Sensor

Shaken, but not stirred ?
Well--I always envisioned the James Bond thing, too...but
isn't a piezoelectric sensor just a crystal with a wire lead ?
They respond to stress and vibration--so I gathered that
the crystal actually is responding to "squeeze"-ing forces.
