Jet Performance scam and others

I have a bit of spice to add to this soup (Habanero style), back long before
I decided to really get into detailing/breaking-out for myself the chip in
my car, I decided to take the aftermarket route and called and found only
one who would tackle the job of doing a performance chip (all the big names
including the "main man" Ron Zimmer declined no matter what ($)). The one
fish I found was Max RPM out of FL (different name now, duh!). They said
they could do it but since it was a first, it would be a custom chip
requiring an additional $75 above the standard price of $156.00. Chip
arrives and it does not even pass ign-on without the main cooling fan coming
of and the system rejecting the contents! (check-sum or whatever). I
decided to compare the chip to my stock one and found they scrambled it
quite well so there was not way to easily figure out their mistakes, but for
sure my ECM would only be running limp-mode if I was stupid enough to use
it. After deciding that it was a failure, I called and asked for a refund
(now from PDQ Mail & More who was the addressie (?)). They could not
authorize the refund and ask I call the programmer at this number (##).
After I call the number, I FIND THE PROGRAMMER WORKS FOR SUPERCHIPS!,
CONFLICT OF INTEREST HERE? Long story short, the programmer says that no
one there at his shop (SuperChips) can figure out (or wants to for any
price, no surprise since Ron Z turned it down) the chip and all of its
contents (its twice the size of most), so then I should get a full refund?
ahhh, no way and after many calls, give up and accept the $156 refund.

Way aside from that, once you do figure out your chip, road tuning as it has
been said here before, is the best way to start. Then dyno to save time and
engine less you got lots of time to be accelerating into all loads and rpms
and temps on the road without pissing people off and/or attracting a lighted
authority figure ;-(.
