     Have seen GM switch with a tension ball end for this type of work.
     Rail style 5-6 speeds may be easier to implement this than lever types.
     It appears some monitoring is being done on the neutral Sw in OE
     The logic used in 4x4 xfer case gear position may be helpful too.
