Need help with 1227165 ECM software

Forgive me if I don't get all my numbers and nomenclature exactly correct.

A little background:
My automotive background is servicing Porsche, MB, Ferrari, and Opel for 20
years. I have been out of the car business for 10 years. My only domestic
(U.S.) automotive experience is a few pre-injection V8's.

Recently I installed a 305 TPI engine from a 1986 TransAm into a 1987 Mazda RX-7
to use as a fun daily driver. The car runs well, but I wanted some software to
be able to watch temp, tps, maf, etc. (at this time I have no interest in
modifying the factory settings.)

I bought a ready-made cable from Andrew Mattei, and have tried software from
Craig Moates and another program called "EFIlive". I cannot connect to the ECM.
EFIlive is telling me the cable interface is okay. I took the car to my local
service shop. They hooked up a Snap-on scan tool and it worked well. After
mentioning the Snap-on experience I was told the ECM might be transmitting at
160 baud instead of the expected 8192.

The PROM chip is labeled: "8993 AUM"

1. Is there an application I can download that will tell me if the ECM is
transmitting at 160 baud?

2. If 160 baud.... Is there software I can download that can read the ECM?

3. Any other suggestions before I go purchase the Snap-on unit? (please keep in
mind I want "plug and play". I don't have the time or desire to screw around.)

Thank you
