I think the FWD 3.8's do use the same bellhousing as the 2.8 and most
other engines used in FWDs.  The Quad-4 though has it's own pattern.  If
you want the different ratios from  Quad-4 transaxle, you can swap case halves.

FYI, at some point the clutch slave changed - from a push type to a pull
type.  From what I've heard the HM283's are all pull type.
