Man hate to hear that.
Maybe building a science project would be a good idea.   ie, take a stocker
and just tinker on it for a couple years.   FWIW, I spent about 5 years
working on CCC stuff to get it all figured out, then installed TBI on that
engine to see how close they performed.   While the later was with a fresh
engine, I went over 100K trying out ideas so that when the Healthy engine
went in  I'd know waht I was doing, and this was after already spinning
wrenches for 20 years.    When the LG4 was retired it was for oil leaks, and
was running it's fastest.

It does sound odd that it did this so quickly.
You know what the oil pressure and temps were?.
When you did the cruise settings what were you using for info gathering?.
Maybe we can all learn something here.
