allredy have an eeprom programer and dont know it? (crazy idea maybe :)

Anyone ever thought of puting a ZIF socket on your PC main board for use as
a programer? i have no idea about the compatability between the GM ECM's and
EEPROMS i know that you can remove the pc's bios once its runing as it
caches the chip anyway and you can pull the chip and program another in that
socket (used this method to fix mainboards struck by that virus a few years
ago) anyone willing to try this and read it back on a normal programer see
if it works?
