Jeremy,

ME, that is who told the president of our company (never mind my boss, he
was not high enough in the food chain), that he was wrong. One issue @ a
time.

if you want to talk, bring it off list, I really don't mind. IT, IS
important, but unfortunately not relevant to this list.

Ah, I leave for a week and GMECM turns into a message board on the woes of
society and commercialization. Perfect. But I can't let it end there...

There has been a lot of talk about the government. Likewise about lazy,
clueless people. The idea being that we as Automotive Enthusiasts have an
obligation to fix society, much as we fix our cars. Similarly, my Aunt told
me that it is my obligation as a Christian to vote for Bush. I didn't vote.
And I don't have a plan to fix society, government, schools, or apathy.

"It's necessary to be politically involved..." -Len

Why? What's to be done? Push for looser emission standards? Less cops on
the street? Higher teacher salaries? Outlaw abortions? Four of my friends
can't decide on a poker night. How can 250 Million Americans possibly agree
on any substantial issue?

"...people out there that want to complain under their breath..." -BW

Complaining under our breath is all we have. I can express my
dissatisfaction, but anything more walks the line of treason or radicalism.
I hate to admit it, but I'm afraid of pissing people off. My job rides on
facelessness. When was the last time anyone stood up to their boss and
proclaimed, "I believe ____" or "I hate ___ group of people!" (Notice I
won't even fill in the blanks in this small forum).

Ok, so we all agree that "something" is wrong. Kids are killing each other,
society is in decay, etc. We hear it every night on the news. And the
answer is...? Slap the clueless people and fight for our rights? That
sounds dangerously akin to a Beastie Boys or NWA song (I know you're with
me, Kevin).
Or we could just groan in the safety of the water-cooled and console
ourselves with the fact that our hotrods are fast.

People as a whole have *TOO* much to lose. My brother knows that he is not
constitutionally obligated to pay income tax. And he's very pissed off.
Yet he sends 27% of his check to Washington DC every week because he has a
nice house, a beautiful wife, and a baby boy.

Maybe when all the beauracrey, legislation, and government mandating has
backed us into a corner - where our well-being is truely threatened...maybe
then America will be willing to "fight". Until then we will eat cake.

So guys, tell me what to do. I've written to my representative, but I got a
form letter back. I voted, but Clinton got elected anyway. Ah, F*** it.
I'm gonna go tinker with my car...

Jeremy
