[Gmecm] Can't keep car in closed loop...

Actually, 104F enables closed loop. The 170 (or around there) is the temperature at which the BLM can be written. Below that, they are read only.
Sounds like maybe an O2 sensor.

that still doesnt make sense, as once it hits 176 degrees, the car will remain in closed loop until it falls below a certain temperatrue, which is waaaay below 176. try a 195 thermostat, but i highly doubt that is teh cause

No, that's normal. It's called hysterisis. You don't want it going back and from from OL to CL as the temperature traverses 176 degrees. There are tolerances in every component and if you allow for a 10% error in the temperature sender, you will find your problem. The first thing that you should do is install a 195 thermostat and see if the problem persists. If it does, then you can rule that out.

176 is gm's standard closed loop "entrance" temperature, but the temp has to drop down to well below that for it to drop out of closed loop.. thats wierd.

        180 may be marginal.
195-210 is normal operating temp and depending on the cal, 180 may be why it's dropping out of closed loop. possibly cooling down too much when the stat opens and dropping below 180.
