Try this:

run test 5 minutes

calculate:
(5*RPM/2)*(#cylinders) = potential knocks in 5 minutes

At 1000 RPM, you should'nt see more than 20,000 knocks
in an 8cyl in 5 minutes

50,000 tells me you have an 8cyl that ran 12 1/2
minutes knocking every compression stroke??

not unrealistic results, in my estimation
