I'd have thought shielded cable was an absolute must , twin core for the
signal with the shield only grounded at one end ( to prevent earth loops ) ,
It certainly soundslike you have am electrical cross talk , Especially if
you can't hear any problem , Quick check for electrical cross talk might be
to remove the sensor and just run the engine with the sensor near it's
normal place with a short ground wire connecting the sytem up electrically
but not mechanically connected to the engine If there is no mechanical
connection to the engine ( and thus no noise transfer ) then if your "knock
" persists you have electrical cross talk !!
