You're better off scouring through the Camiras/Astras/Pulsars at DIY wrecking yards looking for a 16183082 or 16206305.  They were a factory replacement for the flakey 1227808's, directly interchangeable and support 8192.  You should be able to get one for ~$50. It's the same as in a VR/S manual but Commodore parts people will charge you an arm and a leg for one.

Still, that's only 1/2 your problem...you still need an 8192 capable BIN.

?? Has anyone seen details on adding 8192 baud circuity to a 1227808 ECM. I've seen it done but don't have to details on how. I think it involves adding a?Max232 IC somehow.
