AFAIK that switch mounted on the shift shaft of the 4L60E (on the 95 or 
newer models) is merely for the digital PRNDL readout on the cluster which 
wouldn't be required on the older dash.However there may be other electronic 
differences in the 96 model (e.g. solenoids?) that might not be totally 
compatible with the 93 PCM . I don't have those details in front of me, but 
some else here may know. Something about a different Pressure Control 
Solenoid PWM frequency rings a bell???...
