[Gmecm] Caprice Prom/ECM help

Need help with an '89 caprice ECM.
Friend pulled a prom failure code from it shorting ALDL.
Idles high and CEL flickers,no data exchanged with scantool.
Figured it was bad prom so finally able to pull ECM to see what ID the prom had.
Found no prom and only an empty spot.
ECM has been replaced with reman,figure they prob didnt swap chip.

1st of all,how the heck is it running/driving? Isnt the backup on the calpack?
Also,what ID am i looking for to replace with?
I was hoping to get info and numbers from the prom.

Any help would be appreciated,i'm OBDI dumb.
