The early GM EFI used the large cap HEI distr with the 7 pin module as shown in the link Baize linked. You can see a couple examples at binderplanet.com in the injection forum. All that is needed is to lock out the mech adv. Then retard the vacuum adv about 15* for the proper rotor phasing for electronic adv and mount the 7 pin module in place of the 4 pin HEI module. You can still hit the junkyard and pick up a complete 7pin large cap donor and just swap the internal module and wirting into yours. The alternative is to simply extend the 2 pickup wires out your distr and connect to an externally mounted 8 pin GM module like used in the small cap distr. There are several very simple ways to TBI inject your motor.
While your on the binder planet pay attention to the 454 throttle body and adapter precautions or you can end up with a vacuum leak. HTHFrom: wades at mountainmanmotors.com

Exactly right about the scarcity of the 500 Caddy engines. I have two ? one is completely rebuilt with some performance goodies sitting in our 41 Buick and the other is a core. Our 455 Olds is in a 1946 Olds custom. I would like to find out more about which distributor to use for the TBI. I am looking at the link for converting my current HEI in the OLDs to a distributor that will work for the TBI? I know that I can do this ? there must be a way. Short of having a special one built. The small diameter distributors that the TBI would use for GM has the guts? I have a number of those lying about. Thanks to everyone. From: gmecm-bounces at diy-efi.org [mailto:gmecm-bounces at diy-efi.org] On Behalf Of Aaron

Date: Thursday, January 24, 2013, 9:20 AMGreetings all. I have a few general questions for the group: I have a 455 (a 1976 model year engine) and 700R trans (non-electronic speedo gear) installed in a 1946 Olds. I want to install a TBI setup on this engine and was wondering what kinda Ignition (distributor) could I use ? it has an HEI (stock) on it now? Also ? I?m thinking about using the computer programming from a 454 ? either an SS model or a pickup. Would I be within performance parameters (I just want a good driver ? no performance camshaft but with an aluminum intake). And, finally, what would you all suggest as to the fuel pump to use? I?ve converted other cars over to TBI but have always been able to use the distributor from the donor vehicle. In the case of my 455 ? there are no donor TBI units that I am aware of. What are the thoughts about my project? Thanks. Wade.
