Anybody build their own 5th wheel?

     Why not use the inductive pick-up of a bike computer (you are using 
     the wheel of a bike).  They are very small and work extremely well for 
     any application requiring a wheel signal.

        Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on how I can improve
this design?   Any suggestions for an LED/Photo-receptor package that is not 
influenced by stray light?
