One problem that has been around for years is the tank sender.
Years ago a local wrecking yard tried to start an old ford pickup
that had set around for a long time. The driver tried to star the
engine and the tank(in the cab) blew. It had sucked in enough air
through repeated heating and cooling of the vapor in the tank to make
a combustible mixture, when the switch was turned on there was a
slight arc at the sender which detonated the mixture. very very
unusual. The FBI was called in because the sheriff thought it was
dynamite. Fortunately, the passenger door was open and while the
driver was severly burned, he survived.
