I just replaced a fuel pump in my Honda Prelude because it drew too many 
amps.  I tested the replacement and it only draws about 4.5 to 5 amps.  I 
believe most other automotive pumps are about the same.  I've noticed a 
lot of cars with 10 Amp fuses on their fuel pump circuits.  Generally the 
pump draws much less than the fuse rating.
