MAF Upgrad

Hi all:

Unless you are getting really radical the stock maf with some judicious
useof a hacksaw (Remove the screens and the heat sinks) will flow 750
cfm. It is not the largest restriction in the system. The stock
throttle body will flow about 670 cfm with an aftermarket airfoil
installed. TPIS has done extensive air flow studies on all the
components in the system. Buy the insider hints book. It's worth 2x
what they ask for it. In the TPIS LT-1 insider book they have the dyno
test of an LT1 engine where they show the air used to generate
horsepower. 583 scfm to generate 402.5 hp at 6750 rpm. Now why would
you need more than 750 cfm unless you are getting really radical? It's
just that there are other worse restrictions in the system than the maf
sensor. There have been engines putting out close to 500 hp with the
stock maf with the modifications listed above. I hate to see someone
get all exercised when they could spend their money better someplace
else.
Mark.
