French electrics; You never got the Simca 1100 in the states -- brilliant
concept terrible execution. The light fittings were made of zinc alloy
and were fitted with the backs straight on to the wheel arch. With amount
of salt put on the roads in europe the fitting would just vanish after a
year leaving just a bulb hanging on the end of a wire and white soapy
scum to show where it had been. Its near relative the Chrysler Alpine was
one of the few cars I have ever known with with an alternator controlled
by an old fashioned regulator -- the contacts would burn out in 20k
miles.
