Where is the pump mounted? If  it is at the engine compartment, for
instance, and the fuel line runs parallel and close to the exhaust (
close is relative, a foot from an unsheilded cat will do it) the fuel,
being quite warm, CAN boil when the pressure drops even a small amount
below atmospheric between the pump and the tank. A restricted inlet
filter can cause the symptoms to be more evident.
