that is why we have O2 sensors and ECUs

I also suspect that the mixture may also have to be slightly richer 
to burn properly when it is diluted with inert gases
the hot exhuast also heats the incoming which should give slightly better
combustion
lots of variables, I have a 500 line dissertation on EGR if anyone wants me to
post it, lots of tech details
