Fixing cut harness

More or less standard commercial-duty repair practice is to use a
mechanically crimped splice of the right size, solder the crimp and the
wire together, and use an adhesive-coated PVC shrink tube on the joint
to keep moisture out. The only way to avoid making the joint brittle is
to apply just enough heat to get the solder to flow and then leave it
alone, and lots of cleaning will help in that regard, rather than
expecting the flux to do all the work. Even so, soldered joints do have
a tendency to fail over time after prolonged vibration. The mechanical
splice helps some in this respect. Have a look at a Packard or Delphi
catalog for the splices I mention and the crimpers to install them.
