Water Injection (Was: Re: Wide Ratio O2)

All,

So... how does the water clean out the carbon deposits?  Is it the 
standard "Water Gas" reaction:

H2O + C  --->   H2 + CO  ??

Or, is it something more than that?  I'm pretty good with textbook 
chemistry and physics (heck, got my degree in it), but I know that 
what happens in a real engine is often a lot more complicated...
Just curious.
