More likely to killem.  If the fuel has a mangenese additive, the stuff
can sluff off as it desolves.  Then ya wind up with an O2 sensor
with thick black streaks over it.  If the plugs have a pinkish color
to em the owner has been using a manganese additive fuel
(Shell used to be really bad for this).  On a hypo engine, you
almost need a jeweler's loupe to see the pink onna cold plug,
but can cause a high rpm miss..   Also, follow manufacturers
instructions so as to not kill the O2..  
  While it takes heat for a O2, and cat to work, too much heat
can killem.  
  That's also why I mentioned the orange hue yesterday, meaning
they can get real hot doing this.
