Geoff,
One LM3914 bargraph driver set up to measure 1 volt. 10 LEDs each LED
represents 1/10 = 0.1 volts. If you cascade two LM3914 devices and set it
up to measure 1 volt you will have 20 LEDs therefore each LED represents
1/20 = 0.05 volts. Hence better resolution.
Get hold of a copy of the data sheet of the LM3914 off the web. It shows
you how to connect it up in various ways.
