Dunno about other carbs but SUs will float the float bowl with much
more than 4psi. The float just cannot hold the needle valve closed.

Problem with low pressure on the fuel line between the tank (in the
back) and the engine up the front is that under hard acceleration the
fuel doesn't want to get to the front of the car so you can suffer
fuel starvation. Ideally you have HUGE pressure to the front of the
car from the tank and then reg that to what ever the carb can deal
with. With injection it is different as the fuel is forced into the
manifold rather than just sucked in from a pool just under the jet.
