Idle air with threaded port?

Excuse me if I've got the wrong end of the stick - is it the thread that's
important , or the fact that the valve is able to fit remotely/independently
of a specific flange fitting?
A lot of Bosch (Motronic) valves fit inline with hoses fixed by hoseclips,
5/8" - 3/4" or thereabouts I think.
