easy anti-lag

Having been a part of the ol Datsun Factory team (BRE), I can tell ya, all
they ever admitted to is what you could see. Countless hours of detail
went into every engine. Had to use a production cam, ya, we had them by the
pallet, and each one got "profiled" to find the last .0000x of lift.
Checking the finish on deck head surfaces, and I mean with all the detail
you can imagine. Hours spent hand fitting bearings.
Also knew the wharehouse manager for Toyota in the early 70s, and they
had stuff stacked to the rafters of stuff that was being imported for R+D by
some of the various teams years before they were actually used.
And one of the really big deals was simplicity. They would spend hours
and hours to eliminate anything they could. Also, some of the stuff that
was easy to see, didn't work. Just to throw people of the trail of what was
going on. ie, wouldn't surprise me to see a water injection set up for a
turbo that was actually used for brake cooling.
