Bosch vs. other make injectors

Glad to hear you've decided to buy Canadian 'eh!........... You'll like the
SDS system. A bunch of guys around here have had good luck with it, and the
main designer dude seemed to know his s--t when I talked with him a few
years back. It is pretty simplistic when compared to the GM OE stuff, but
sometimes that's all that is needed to make the first jump from old carbs to
the modern age. I do, however, have to side with Bruce on one point.
Subsequent diagnosis, service, and spare parts availability may be a PITA
unless you are willing to undertake this all by yourself and then possibly
wait until parts can be sourced thru SDS (for those that are not OE
generic). For a "toy" this is okay, but for a regular driver this may not
be.

On the injector front, your options are wide open, and I would **strongly**
suggest reading & researching as much as possible before locking your focus
on one particular flavour or vendor of injector. Subtle things like spray
pattern, duty cycle, coil impedance, pressure, targeting, check meter
design, director, and packaging all make a huge difference in the long run.
If a bunch of these things are addressed up front, then you'll be happier in
the long run. Take a good long look at some of the newer OE port fuel
injection manifolds, and try to mentally absorb design cues for your custom
setup. Look especially at the angle of inclination of the injector WRT the
centerline of the port. Perpendicular to the opposing runner wall works
"okay" and gets the job done, but is not optimal.

My recommendations to you, would be to:

1) Read this document a couple of times over
http://www.supras.com/~riemer/sonictech/fuel_injectors/RCtech.html .
2) If you don't already have them, order Kinsler's catalogues, as they
contain a huge wealth of injector & EFI & neat fuel related stuff that
you'll eventually need anyways. I'd also call them and discuss your
application over the phone. You pay a bit more for their stuff, but it's
well worth it.
3) Ask RC for their injector recommendation also.
4) Download this packet from the incoming directory
ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/incoming/BigInjectors.zip , and examine the
injector plume photos. This pretty much represents the shape and appearance
of the major spray types. There are others, but they are specialized and
hard to find.

If I had to choose an injector manufacturer for a custom project, I'd stick
with either Bosch or Siemens simply due to the fact that P/N's and sizes are
numerous and that detailed info is easier to come by. The Rochester's are
quality pieces, but are overly sensitive to fuel pressure effects, and oft
will shut-down and play funny games at higher than stock differentials. I
don't have much experience with the ND's. Lastly, I too like the Lucas
discs that I've seen, but specific info is hard to obtain.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your project!

Walt.
PS: Let me know what flavour of Webers you have currently. I may know a
person who'd be interested.....
