frequency to voltage converter for GM frequency type MAF

Does anyone have any recommendations on what type of frequency to voltage
converter to use to convert the GM frequency style MAF signal into a voltage
(for use in data acquisition etc.)? Can you safely back probe and tap into
the signal from the MAF that is being used by the engine management or might
this impact the signal the PCM sees? Finally, I know what the frequency
range is from the different MAF sensors but I don't know what the voltage
output range is - anyone hooked one of these up to a 'scope? A lot of the
frequency to voltage converters specify maximum voltage input values.
