Gas price control

Raw product cost has nothing to do with it.  First, transport of anything
to Australia costs more only because it's far from any other sizable market,
and it itself is a fairly small market (there are only something like 20M
Australians all told, in a HUGE geographical area). 

And as for gas taxes and the retail price, Norway is an oil exporting
country (a member of OPEC), yet it has the highest gas prices of anywhere
in Europe ($5 per gallon.  US dollars, US gallons).  Venuzuela is also
an oil exporting country, and also a member of OPEC.  Gas prices there
are under $0.25 per gallon.  In neither country is supply an issue.  Taxes
make the whole difference.
