As far as i knew, the intake manifolds are designed to be slightly rough for 
a purpose(jsut like if you look at and good head work, the combustion 
chambers look like a mirror , but the intake runners and ports are slightly 
rough)
this is so that when your air and fuel enter the runner, this slight texture 
creates turbulence which keeps the gas molecules suspended better in the 
air... gives a more even distribution(or would it be disbursement), and a 
better mix(for lack of a better term).. which gets more essential the FURTHER 
the injectors are placed from the head , in the manifold.
