 Whoops, saved the previous message before I was done...

-> So, by your logic, zoomie pipes would be the optimum setup for part
-> throttle efficiency?

 The optimal exhaust system is theoretically nothing, or a short stack,
like various aircraft engines. Large marine or stationary engines, like
electrical generating stations use, have short stacks exhausting into
large plenums. Taking valve overlap into account, a zoomie, which is a
long stack, can take advantage of resonance effects at various narrow
RPM bands while costing power at others.

 Those are as good as it gets; any "header" system is just an attempt to
move the exhaust from the cylinder head to somewhere else while losing
as little power as possible. You can play some games with tuned
lengths to shift some of the power curve around, since a header is
basically a group of zoomies, but the exhaust valve timing is *much*
more important than the configuration of the header, though both are
inseparably dependent on each other.
