[Diy_efi] Effect of detonation on measured mixture?

How, if at all, does detonation effect the mixture seen by an O2 sensor?

I was adjusting the mixture on my supercharged Z3 trying to eliminate a little bit of ignition retard I was seeing WOT due to the knock sensors kicking in.

I enrichened the mixture (+4%) in the area of the knock (around 4300 and up) and retested ignition and mixture. Now I wasn't getting the ignition retard but my mixture actually looked leaner in that area.

I'm assuming this is because I'm getting better combustion in that area (no detonation so a few more degrees of advance) but wanted to confirm that.
